In 1900, McKinley was elected president, and Theodore Roosevelt was elected as his vice president.

Marie Curie was born on November 7th, 1867 in what is now Poland. She later became the first woman to earn a Nobel Prize and the first person to win two.

Bram Stoker was born November 8th, 1847. Bram is best known as the author of the novel Dracula; all last month I posted excerpts from a passage of this book where Dr. Helsing is describing Dracula. Kudos if you caught the reference!

On this day in 1918, Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated his title as emperor of the German Empire, and Germany became a republic.

On this day in 1905, Norway held a referendum which showed popular support for Norway's parliament (the Storting) to offer the crown of a newly independent Norway to a current Royal from another country; they eventually gave this to Prince Carl of Denmark, who took the new name King Haakon VII, and reigned as monarch from 1905 until his death in 1957; remaining a beloved figure through two World Wars.
